NOCA Academy Web Seminar Series
NOCA is pleased to provide the Web Seminar Academy Series annually to the credentialing community. The focus of each web seminar is “hands-on” training on practical subjects relevant to the credentialing professional. Each web seminar offers participants new skills and techniques applicable to certification programs in various industries.
In 2009 NOCA will be offering 12 web seminars. Each web seminar will have a distinction of either new to topic or familiar with topic. Each of our first six seminars adapts content from a popular session at the NOCA 2008 Annual Educational Conference. If you missed these sessions, make sure to attend these encore presentations; or if you were able to attend these sessions at NOCA 2008, share the information with a colleague! Please click here to download the registration form for our first 6 web seminars.
Each web seminar will be presented via a web-based tool with an audio component as well. Sessions typically run between 1 and 2 hours and can be attended from your office. Should your organization have several employees interested in attending who can share a conference room or office, then only one registration form is required! Employees of your organization attending from different locations need to register separately.
All seminars begin at 2:00 pm EST. Please note that all registered attendeese will receive an audio recording of the webinar included as part of the registration fee!

Performance Tests: Why You Need One, How You Can Develop One - New to Topic
Speakers: Leon Gross, PhD, Psychometric Consultant; Graham Brent, Executive Director, National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators; and Wallace Judd, President, Authentic Testing Company
Developing, administering, and scoring performance tests are among the most innovative applications of psychometrics. These tests should be considered for any professional certification program for three reasons. First, knowing what to do is not synonymous with being able to do it. Written or computer-administered tests of knowledge may not assess important skill components of competence. Second, the most distinctive, defining, real-world characteristics of a profession are most evident in the structure and administration of a performance test. Although written tests differ significantly in content, their similarities in format offer little differentiation. Third, performance tests are much more resistant to security threats than written and computer-based tests of knowledge, because they require candidates to demonstrate their skill in a mastery setting. This session will provide examples of innovative performance tests from multiple professional settings, including health care, information technology, and construction.
